A British cutlery company are making new knives with blunt square tips in a bid to reduce knife crime. Sheffield-based Cultery and kitchenware firm Viners says it decided to come up with the square-ended blade 'in response to rising knife crime statistics and new government legislation'. It also cites spiralling levels of knife crime, which saw blade-related offences rise by seven per cent from the previous 12 months last year, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The square-ended knives will be available from Dunelm stores later this week and on the Viners website from February 16. Last year the Government produced hundreds of thousands of fried chicken boxes with messages designed to deter young people from knife crime.
