Boris Johnson spoke to Mike Pence, the future vice-president, as divisions emerged in Europe over how to react to the election of Donald Trump. The foreign secretary, who has urged Europeans to stop their “collective whinge-o-rama” about the American election, was called by Mr Pence on Thursday evening. Mr Pence is understood to have told Mr Johnson that he has been following his career and admires his work. Mr Johnson wrote on Twitter last night: “Just spoken to US VP-elect Mike Pence.
