Two people were killed on a rain-lashed roads in Britain today and thousands of homes were left without power as the country was battered by 70mph winds and torrential downpours. The Met Office has issued a series of yellow 'be aware' weather warnings affecting large areas of the UK today. The first is a warning for heavy rain and strong wind which affects South West England. Rain and snow is expected to affect much of Scotland, including the M74, with gales also forecast. Police say some sections of the M74 and higher routes heading north out of the Central Belt are at risk of heavy snow.
