UCLA’s pursuit of Jamie Dixon of TCU to be its next coach appeared to hit a snag this week. After all, UCLA is UCLA, right? It dates to 1984-85, Walt Hazzard’s first season as coach at the school he helped win its first national championship in 1964. The Bruins didn’t make the NCAA tournament that year, but they did win the NIT. He diddn’t made the NCAA tournament, but with four appearances in the conference championship game, he came closer than anyone in program history.
