The news that Sir Paul McCartney played a gig at the Beatles’ old haunt, the Cavern Club in Mathew Street, Liverpool, is surely a happy story. Even Sir Paul was surprised when the crowd proved word perfect on that one. This is not an anti-Beatles column; I’m very much in favour of Sir Paul — and indeed fancy him.
