Phil Murphy reported his state has now seen over 1,700 deaths, with 1,523 people being treated in intensive care for the respiratory illness. The real numbers could be even higher because state unemployment offices around the country have been overwhelmed with claims, and some people have been unable to get through by telephone or website.
