Massachusetts, the only one of the states involved with a Republican governor, was announced as a member later in the day Monday. Trump's statement on Twitter earlier in the day also said that he was working closely with governors. "The president has no authority to 'close down' or 'open up' the states. A number of states have extended their stay-at-home and physical distancing orders beyond May 1, with Virginia's governor targeting June 10. Hard-hit New York state now has more than 10,000 deaths, with more than half of the fatalities recorded in the past week.
