The Electronic Frontier Foundation and other free speech advocates have long been critical of material support laws. But none of that really matters: Even if al-Shabab were posting cat videos, it would still be a crime to provide material support to the group. There is a law — a criminal statute — that says that you are not allowed to give services to designated foreign terrorist organizations. HuffPost has viewed these letters, which explicitly address concerns about material support of terrorism, and Kramer acknowledged that Cloudflare received them.
