U.S. Supplier Prices Picked Up in July

By Gabriel T. RubinU.S. supplier prices rose 0.3% in July from a month earlier, the Labor Department said Friday, a pickup from an unchanged June reading. Last month's increase was driven by higher meat prices and bigger margins at wholesalers. Core producer prices, which exclude volatile food and energy categories, also rose 0.3% in July from the prior month, following a 0.1% decrease in June. Supplier prices rose 0.8% in July from a year earlier, the Labor Department said. The CPI rose a modest 0.2% in July from the prior month, the same as in June, the Labor Department said Thursday.
