U.S. stocks slid Thursday, continuing this week’s whipsaw action in equities and bond markets. Major indexes have stumbled this week as government bond yields have hit multiyear highs, puncturing what had been an unprecedented streak of gains for the U.S. stock rally. Yields rise as bond prices fall. The U.S. dollar clawed back some of its heavy year-to-date losses, with the WSJ Dollar Index, which measures the U.S. currency against a basket of 16 others, recently up 0.1%. The gains weren’t mirrored in China, though, with the release of flat unofficial manufacturing purchasing managers index data pressuring stocks in the region.
