U.S. coronavirus cases rose by 55,000, the slowest daily pace since July 7, as some states continued to struggle with a rising number of infections and rapidly increasing death tolls. The U.S. accounts for about a quarter of the more than 16.2 million cases world-wide, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. The nation’s death toll on Monday neared 147,000.
