For context, by the year 2050, Nigeria will have a population larger than the United States and an economy larger than Australia’s. We want to help Africa states provide security for their citizens in a lawful manner. Last October, I announced that the United States would contribute more to these regional efforts. Last year, the United States supported more than 27,000 African peacekeepers from over 20 African countries. Until we do, the United States, as the world’s largest provider of humanitarian assistance, will continue to stand with those most vulnerable.
