In its 11:00 a.m weather bulletin, PAGASA said “Ompong” was last spotted at 725 kilometers (km) East of Virac, Catanduanes. It moves at 20 kilometers per hour (km/h) in a west direction, with maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gusts reaching 255 km/h. PAGASA also said the following provinces will be placed under tropical cyclone warning signal (TCWS) number 1 within 36 hours:
