Two people were seriously injured after a car crashed into a ditch on SH1 south of Waihola yesterday evening. A St John spokesman said it sent three ambulances to the crash, which happened about 6.30pm yesterday. Ambulance officers treated three patients at the scene, two of whom had serious injuries - an adult and a child - and one child which had minor injuries. A police spokeswoman said the highway was reduced to one lane for some time after the crash, and the police serious crash unit was investigating. In an earlier report it was incorrectly stated a helicopter transported a patient from the scene.
