Two rescued after fishing boat sinks off Kerry coast

Two people were rescued after a fishing vessel began sinking off the coast near Portmagee on Thursday morning. Valentia Coast Guard received an alert at approximately 10:45am reporting that a 12-metre fishing boat had run aground on rocks near the small Bull Rock and was taking on water. In response, the Coast Guard deployed Rescue Helicopter R115, the Valentia Lifeboat, and the Iveragh Coast Guard unit to the scene. The occupants abandoned the vessel and entered a life raft before being rescued by a nearby boat and brought safely ashore. Coast Guard personnel later attended the scene to recover safety equipment and debris before the vessel ultimately sank.
