Two refrigerated containers sent to Galle to store bodies of Iranian sailorsNewsTwo refrigerated containers to store the bodies of Iranian sailors who were killed when the IRIS Dena was torpedoed off the coast of Galle were brought to the Galle National Hospital in Karapitiya last night. The containers were sent to the hospital as the hospital's morgue did not have sufficient room to store all the bodies from the vessel. This had forced hospital authorities to keep bodies they could not store in the morgue covered in ice and sawdust. One 40-foot container was sent by the government, but as this too was insufficient, a group of well-wishers pooled together Rs.2.7 million to provide a second refrigerated container to the hospital. The vessel was carrying a crew of about 180 at the time it was torpedoed by a US submarine in the early hours of Wednesday.
