Fire crews were called to the barbers shop and flats above at 8:55pm yesterday, July 5 after a report of a fire at the property. Five fire crews from Penrith, Lazonby, Appleby, Shap and Barrow attended the incident, remaining on scene for around seven hours. Two people were rescued from the premises by fire crews and checked over by the North West Ambulance Service. Crews worked to quickly extinguish the fire, ensuring it was contained to the building of origin. "The dramatic images of the incident and the quick fire grown should remind people to ensure they have a fully working smoke alarm."
