Two people have died following incidents at Kāpiti's Waikanae Beach and Auckland's Karioitahi Beach on Boxing Day. On Sunday afternoon, a police spokesperson confirmed a woman had died at Waikanae Beach following a water-related incident, which was reported to emergency services at around 1:30pm. Situated just north of Paraparaumu in the Wellington region, Waikanae Beach is a popular holiday destination during the summer months. "Police are making enquiries in relation to the death on behalf of the coroner," they said. The spokesperson did not elaborate on the circumstances of the incident.
