The city began to remove an encampment in Alexandra Park Tuesday, after trespassing notices were issued in early June. In a press release, the city said around 28 to 35 people are living in the encampment, located near Bathurst and Dundas Streets. “When requested by city staff, officers will respond with the least amount of force,” Toronto police said. Last month, the city removed an encampment at Trinity Bellwoods, the sweep was condemned by councillors, activists and community members. Mayor John Tory defended the removal at the time, saying it was necessary for public, staff and camp residents’ safety.
