The Civil Aviation Authority said that while an estimated 100,000 people who had paid by direct debit would get their money back within 14 days, others would have to wait up to 60 days because it did not have all the paperwork it required from Thomas Cook. In previous collapses of tour operators, the process for refunding money to customers protected under the Atol scheme has usually taken 20 to 30 days.
