Two men were jailed for 26 months respectively at the District Court today for damaging facilities at the Tseung Kwan O MTR station. The two, Lo Chi-chung and Lam Chun, pleaded guilty to criminal damage earlier in late November. In mid-October last year, the two trespassed into Tseung Kwan O MTR station at midnight and destroyed facilities inside, which cost the MTR more than HK$2 million, smashing at least 14 platform screen doors. The magistrate disagrees with the two for saying their actions were achieving justice by violating the law, saying that even though they committed the crime not for their own interest, the government policies that triggered them would not disappear overnight due to their actions. The magistrate also added that the sentencing must set an example for young ones, and no violence should be beautified and justified.
