One person died in a two-vehicle crash on the Saddle Rd near Woodville, Tararua, and four more were injured, two seriously. Police confirmed at 5.30pm one person also died in the crash on State Highway 1, south of Foxton, Horowhenua. The Saddle Rd – the main route between Hawke's Bay and Manawatū since the road through the Manawatū Gorge was closed last year – has reopened.
