Two jockeys stood down following drug and alcohol tests

Jockey Jason Laking says he has tested positive to drugs at a Southland race meeting but denies taking any. A stipendiary steward’s report from the Wairio Jockey Club’s meeting at Ascot Park, Invercargill on Sunday says a number of riders underwent drug and alcohol testing, with Jason Laking and Corey Campbell being stood down from their riding engagements after returning non-negative results. Laking and Campbell had returned non-negative results so the samples would be sent away for further analysis, “for confirmation or otherwise”. He would not be commenting on what substance the jockeys tested non-negative to at this stage, he added. It was “a little unusual” for two jockeys to test non-negative at the same meeting.
