The fire service was called to a scrub fire on State Highway 5, near the Rangitaiki Tavern, just before 10am on Sunday. Two helicopters and six fire crews are battling a scrub fire near Taupō. The fire spanned 100 squared metres, Fire and Emergency NZ northern communications shift manager Craig Dally said. Six crews from Taupō and the Hawke's Bay were also helping douse the blaze on State Highway 5, near the Rangitaiki Tavern. The fire service was called just before 10am on Sunday.
