Two giraffes inexplicably died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur on Wednesday, with Zoo authorities initially suspecting that a bacteria attack was the cause. Shamsul Azam, project director of the park, said the giraffes suddenly fell down on the ground and died in the morning on the day. Safari park sources claimed that the animals had died due to the park authority’s negligence. Nizam Uddin, veterinary doctor of the park, could not be reached over the phone after repeated attempts by the Dhaka Tribune. Safari Park sources said the six-year-old giraffes were bought from Africa between 2013 and 2015 for Tk1.5cr.
