A day after a tusker made it back to the wild after strolling on the streets of Guwahati, two elephants died under different circumstances near human habitations in Assam on Thursday. While one died of electrocution near Harmoti village in Nagaon district, the other succumbed to injuries after falling into a mud pit in Rani area on the outskirts of Guwahati. It seems like a deliberate attempt to electrocute the animal,” a forest official of Kaziranga National Park said. The official said the elephant had strayed into the village, probably in search of food, and was electrocuted on Wednesday night. Human-animal conflicts have so far claimed the lives of four elephants and 10 people this year.
