Two arrested, 31 crates of illicit liquor seized in Kirinyaga

Police in Kirinyaga on Monday night nabbed 31 crates of second generation brews and arrested two people among them a distributor of the dangerous alcohol. According to the Mwea East police boss Dorothy Gaitenga, the liquor is distributed in various outlets in Mt Kenya region but it is manufactured in Nairobi. Gaitenga said after officers impounded some 31 crates of the liquor christened Shujaa Ice and Batian Special, whose labels were fake and without the Kenya Bureau of Standards mark. In 2015 President Uhuru Kenyatta declared total war on the illicit liquor and ordered the closure of all second generation manufacturing plants. The area Liquor Licensing Board has warned traders that they risk losing their licenses if they are found dealing in illicit liquor.
