Two Small-Cap Retail Stocks That May Have A Rough October

Among the best-performing small-cap stocks during October over the past 10 years are retailers Ascena Retail Group and J.C. Penney, which, like many of their sector peers, have struggled this week after Nordstrom stock sold off on news the company may not be taken private. Shares of Ascena Retail Group have shed almost 60% of their value during the past 12 months, and touched an 18-year low back in May. Despite the stock's miserable performance on the charts, there are still some believers in the brokerage bunch. Like Ascena, short sellers continue to feast on J C Penney. Amazingly, short sellers control almost 47% of JCP's float.
