KATHMANDU: Two Sherpa guides working on Everest were confirmed dead Tuesday, bringing the death toll on the world’s highest peak this spring climbing season to five. The two guides – both ethnic Sherpas from the valleys that surround Everest – were working on opposite sides of the mountain, which straddles the border between Nepal and Tibet. Mingma Gelu Sherpa, of Seven Summit Adventure company, said one of their guides died last Friday. A third guide, Lama Babu Sherpa, went missing near Everest’s summit earlier this month and is presumed dead. Around 400 people have reached Everest’s summit so far this month.
