Patong police were notified at 10.30pm of the incident on Phra Baramee road, at the hairpin curve on the way up the hill from Kathu. Emergency responders arrived and found a damaged passenger pickup truck, driven by 47-year-old Thavorn Glasueak, and a motorbike on the road nearby. Two male foreign tourists were taken to Patong Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. They were later identified as 29- and 31-year-old Russian nationals. At this stage, police believe the motorbike being ridden by the tourists lost control on the tight curve and collided with the pickup.
