Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department or IMD has issued red alert in two Kerala districts, Idukki and Kasargod, as heavy rainfall over the weekend has killed four people so far. Since then, parts of the state are experiencing extremely heavy rainfall even as the state overall is still rain deficit by 36%. The IMD has said that extremely heavy rainfall is expected to continue until 23 July in Kerala's northern districts such as Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur, which have been placed on red alert. Central and southern districts such as Kottayam, Ernakulam and others are also expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next five days and have been placed on alert of lower severity. Two others, members of a five-man crew who had taken to the sea from Kollam district's Neendakara, are still missing.
