Turkish tanks roll into Syrian town, open new front in anti-ISIS campaign

(CNN) Turkey sent tanks and armored vehicles into the Syrian border town of Al-Rai Saturday, effectively opening up a new front in its campaign against ISIS, Turkish state media reported. The offensive led to Free Syrian Army rebels, backed by Turkish artillery and warplanes, capturing villages near Al-Rai from ISIS. Turkish warplanes struck four ISIS positions in northern Syria during the fighting late Saturday, Anadolu reported. The Turkish military said that 20 ISIS targets were struck in the latest violence, and that 300 ISIS targets have been hit since Operation Euphrates Shield began on August 24. The wall is being erected from Karkamis, a Turkish town across the border from Jarablus, to Suruc, which lies across from the Syrian town of Kobane.
