Yapı Merkezi is the first Turkish construction company to undertake major turnkey railway projects in Africa. Founded in 1965, the international privately-owned contracting company is specialized in railway engineering, design, manufacturing, construction, electrification and signalling systems. In Ethiopia, Yapı Merkezi has been constructing the Awash-Kombolcha-Hara Gebeya railway line since October 2014, which is one of the country’s most important railway projects. Yapı Merkezi has also been arranging financing for the USD 1.7 billion project through an innovative trilateral approach by bringing together the Ethiopian government with Turkish and European banks.
