However, according to a source in Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Sharif canceled his visit at the request of Turkish officials as Ankara is “busy in earthquake rescue and relief operations”. The decision of Pakistan’s top officials to visit Turkey amid a debilitating economic crisis in the country was criticized by civil society and the media. The air contingent left for Adana on the night of 6 February in a special Pakistan Air Force aircraft to carry out relief operations in Turkey. The ISPR said the teams would remain in Turkey until the rescue and relief operations were completed.
