Tunoi tribunal adjourned to Thursday

The tribunal investigating bribery claims against Philip Tunoi has requested two more days to review a ruling that retired the judge. Three Supreme Court judges upheld the May 27 Court of Appeal ruling that all judges retire at age 70, retiring Tunoi and Deputy Chief Justice Kalpana Rawal who are 72 and 70 respectively. According to the law, a judicial tribunal does not have the mandate to investigate a retired judge. Tribunal chairman Sharad Rao had asked Tunoi's lawyers Fred Ngatia, Paul Lilan and lead counsel Paul Nyamodi to study the judgement before the hearing resumes. Tunoi has been accused of pocketing a Sh200 million bribe to rule in favour of Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero in an election petition.
