The residents expressed concern over the proposal by the county government to remove informal settlements which they said were providing housing to thousands of slum residents. Residents in Tudor Estate, Mombasa County, have said they will resist any attempt by the county government to evict them. The residents led by Mombasa politician Mohamed Tenge, said they will not allow the county government to demolish the structures of the residents to pave way for new housing units. Mombasa County government had launched a project to redevelop old estates in the county in a bid to resolve the housing shortage in the county. The county government had said it will redevelop the estates to create an additional 30,000 housing units by 2035.
