I have to wonder if anyone else in the country winced at the patronising and condescending attitude of Ryan Tubridy as he interviewed the elderly on The Late Late Show. For a man who often lectures on how we shouldn’t generalise sections of society, he appears to have no such qualms about the elderly. I really should have switched over to Alan Partridge on BBC1, where at least the cringe and condescension was intended. An Post, the DAA, Irish Aviation Authority, Coillte and CIE, together with RTÉ andother semi-state organisations, suffer from bloated organisation structures at excessive cost to the citizens through the Exchequer. To attempt, as has been done by semi-state organisations, to blame their travails on the pandemic is tantamount to rewriting the history of semi-states in Ireland.
