Kazeem Biriowo – AbujaThe National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (NTBLCP) of the Federal Ministry of Health has warned Nigerians that tuberculosis is an infectious disease and it is not caused by witchcraft. The National Coordinator of NTBLCP, Dr Chukwuma Anyaike disclosed this at the 2023 Pre-World TB Day Press Conference organised by Stop TB Partnership Nigeria, in collaboration with the NTBLCP. Anyaike explained that Tuberculosis is not caused by any witchcraft but an infectious disease caused by a bacterium called mycobacterium tuberculosis and can not be contracted by shaking hands, and by hugging. We should try as much as possible to let people know, people hear of TB, I want us to expand it to tuberculosis”.
