Photo: Hamish MacLeanA movie theatre operated by a trust may be the only way North Otago residents will be able to watch feature films on the big screen regularly, Waitaki Mayor Gary Kircher says. Oamaru's sole movie theatre, Limelight Cinema, closed on October 25 last year. Mr Kircher said another, more likely, option was the possibility of a trust becoming involved, similar to the one that runs the Regent Theatre in Waimate. The Waimate Regent Theatre Trust, established in the 1980s, invested more than $100,000 in a digital projector and sound system for the theatre in 2016.
