Boeing’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is in a very strange place under Donald Trump. It’s not easy for the world to sort out which of Trump’s Super Hornet pronouncements have been real and which have been fake. Trump’s Hornet fixation didn’t start auspiciously. Since Trump’s tweet, there has been no request to Boeing to “price-out” a Super Hornet, and no money provided to create a Super Hornet that is “comparable” to the F-35. One of Trump’s objectives may have been F-35 cost reduction, but there has been no change to F-35 cost numbers in the DoD budget, although, as reported here, he falsely claimed credit for an F-35 cost reduction.
