President Trump signed an executive order formally withdrawing the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, an order establishing a federal hiring freeze, and a third order reinstating the "Mexico City policy," on Jan. 23 at the White House. President Trump on Monday reversed the Obama administration's 2009 decision that let the money flow. The rule is known as the “Mexico City policy” by its supporters and the “global gag rule” by its foes. It was first instituted by President Ronald Reagan during a conference in Mexico City in 1984. The world’s most vulnerable women will suffer as a direct result of this policy, which undermines years of effort to improve women’s health.
