President-elect Donald Trump has selected Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii turned staunch Trump ally, to be the next head of the U.S. intelligence community. As director of national intelligence, she would lead 18 spy agencies and oversee a budget of $76 billion. Even as a Democrat, Gabbard drew suspicion over her foreign policy views, which diverged from many in the party. Among those who criticized Gabbard was former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who described Gabbard as “the favorite of the Russians” during the Democratic primary in 2020. Shortly after leaving the Democratic party, Gabbard became a Fox News contributor.
