(CNN) Audit fever is catching on as a Republican lawmaker in Pennsylvania announced Wednesday that he is pushing for a so-called forensic audit of the 2020 election . The move comes as a number of Republican leaders across the country have continued to question the outcome of the 2020 election and cling to unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud. But Mastriano's requests drew a swift rebuke from Democratic leaders in the state Senate as well as the state attorney general. For the Pennsylvania lawmaker, continuing his post-election skepticism with an audit push serves a clear political purpose. As for Pennsylvania Democrats, they criticized Mastriano's audit push as little more than another political play to win support from the former President.
