Photos: GettyWASHINGTON—President Trump said Friday he is sending about 1,500 additional troops to the Middle East, part of a deployment sought by military officials as they move to counter what they have described as new threats from Iran and its allies. Mr. Trump, speaking to reporters outside the White House before leaving on a trip to Japan, said the additional troops were being sent mostly for protective reasons and represented a “relatively small” deployment.
