Published earlier this year, Michelle McNamara’s I’ll Be Gone in the Dark shined a glaring spotlight on the 10-year rape and murder spree of the perpetrator she dubbed “The Golden State Killer” (GSK). He slipped in and out of yards and houses with ease; even neighborhood dogs didn't bark when they usually would have. McNamara's RoleMcNamara didn’t get to finish her book, as she died in her sleep in April 2016. The subtitle brings in McNamara's mission: “One Woman’s Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer.”It wouldn’t be too far-fetched to call McNamara the GSK’s last victim. In any event, there’s no doubt that McNamara’s intrepid research and dogged dedication helped bring about this stunning development in the case.
