A trucking boss is blaming the NZ Transport Agency for a crash in Southland saying the slippery road surface caused a truck to slide out of control. But the agency says weather conditions delayed repairs to the road surface and it will be repaired next week. The cause of the crash is being investigated by police, and therefore the agency will not comment on whether the road surface was to blame. Willis said he was told by a police officer at the scene that the crash happened because of the road surface, and summer ice, where dust, dirt, and oil build up on the road. The tar on the road surface had melted again, making it "like an ice rink," Hitchin said.
