FORT MCMURRAY, ALTA.—A truck driver has been sentenced to two years for a causing a 2017 crash in northern Alberta that killed a man. Tyrel Burton of Grande Prairie, Alta., had pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm. Court heard that Burton crashed his tractor-trailer unit into a lineup of vehicles stopped at a red light in Fort McMurray. Court heard that Burton was a veteran trucker but it was his first trip to Fort McMurray. He didn’t see the lineup of vehicles or the red light, and was driving 90 km/h toward the busy intersection, where the posted limit is 70 km/h.
