The engine of a large construction truck caught on fire as the truck was traveling on Hollow Tree Ridge Road last Wednesday, Darien police said. The driver of the truck, a 1998 Peterbuilt Conventional, said he wasn’t sure how or why the fire started, but he stopped the vehicle at the corner of Hollow Tree Ridge Road and West Avenue when he heard a loud noise coming from the engine. Firefighters from the Noroton Heights Fire Department and other departments responded to the 11:52 a.m. report, as did police. The truck is owned by F&G Construction of Norwalk. No injuries or damage to other property was reported.
