“Abolish the monarchy, enough of this,” reads one irate social media post, referring to the visit to Canada by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The general theme running through these messages is this: How dare these inbred grandees call themselves the rulers of Canada? Don’t think the British Royals don’t know this. It’s why the British royal family are among the last public figures on earth required to get in front of a microphone and speak at length without letting slip any lame political opinions. Canada may yet send the Royals packing, but it shouldn’t be because we think they’re arrogant foreign overlords.
