Trillanes stays a free man for now as second Makati court defers arrest warrant

SEN. Antonio Trillanes 4th remains a free man, for now, after a second court deferred issuing an arrest warrant and instead set a hearing on October 5 to determine whether the former Navy lieutenant who led a plot to oust then president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo twice applied for amnesty. Judge Andres Soriano of the Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 148 said the deferment would allow both parties to file their evidence pursuant to the Supreme Court’s order for the lower courts to prove whether or not Trillanes applied for amnesty. “Accordingly, without necessarily reopening the case and/or giving due course to the prosecution’s Urgent Ex-parte Omnibus Motion and to the leeway given by the Supreme Court in its Resolution dated September 11, 2018 set this case for reception of parties’ evidence,” Soriano said in his order. The court considered the article “enough” evidence against Trillanes’ non-admission of guilt. NEIL JAYSON N. SERVALLOSLoading...
